What’s a Chaldean Zaffa?
A Chaldean zaffa is a traditional wedding procession that joyfully escorts the bride and groom to their ceremony. Featuring live music with instruments like the oud, tabla, and mijwiz, the zaffa brings together family, friends, and musicians to dance, sing, and celebrate as they lead the couple forward.
This ancient tradition dates back to Mesopotamian times and symbolizes the community’s blessing, protection, and support for the new marriage. It’s both a celebration and a formal announcement to loved ones and neighbors that the wedding festivities have begun.
Our Modern Twist
In honor of this tradition — and with a modern twist — our zaffa will take place at the home of Michael's father, where Vosta will make her entrance surrounded by the groom’s family before heading to the church.
While the groom will not be present at this part of the day, his family will joyfully welcome and celebrate the bride in his place, continuing the spirit of unity and cultural pride.
Why It Matters
This part of the wedding is not only festive, but it reflects values we hold close:
Respect for family and community
Joyful celebration of love and partnership
Preserving cultural identity and paying homage to those who came before us
Whether this tradition is familiar to you or completely new, we welcome you to cheer, clap, dance, and celebrate with us — it means the world to share this part of our story with you.
WHAT TO WEAR
the dress code for the zaffa ceremony is black tie. there will be transportation from the house to the church, so many guests will wear their attire for the wedding beginning at the zaffa. please see the link below for attire inspiration!
